How to Use the Tip & Split Calculator

Tipping expectations vary wildly depending on the service and the region. In North America, these are the standard baseline rules:

Should I Tip on the Pre-Tax or Post-Tax Amount?

Proper etiquette dictates that you should tip on the pre-tax subtotal. You are tipping the server for their labor based on the cost of the food and drinks they provided, not on the government's sales tax. However, many people find it easier to just tip on the final number at the bottom of the receipt. Our calculator supports both methods—just use the "Tip on Post-Tax Total" toggle in the advanced options.

What does the "Round Total Up" toggle do?

If your bill comes out to $42.37, checking this box will automatically round your final total up to a clean $43.00 by slightly increasing the tip amount to cover the difference. It makes mental math and paying with cash much easier.

Does this tool work for currencies other than USD?

Yes! We have included a drop-down menu that supports Euros, Pounds, Rupees, Yen, and several other major global currencies, ensuring the symbol is correct on your final receipt.

Is my data saved or uploaded?

Absolutely not. We have no databases connected to this tool. If you use the "Save to History" feature, it saves the data to your browser's local cache (localStorage) which only you can access.
