What Is a QR Code Image Scanner?

A QR code image scanner reads the data hidden inside a QR (Quick Response) code and turns it back into readable content — a website link, a chunk of text, WiFi credentials, contact details, a phone number and more. Unlike a phone's built-in camera scanner, this tool also decodes QR codes that are already saved as an image: a screenshot, a downloaded picture, a photo from your gallery, or an image hosted online.

Everything runs directly in your browser. When you upload or paste an image, the pixels are analysed on your own device using an open-source decoding engine — the image is never uploaded to a server. That makes it fast, private and usable even on sensitive codes like tickets, boarding passes or login QRs.

What kinds of QR codes can it read?

The scanner recognises the most common QR data formats and adapts its actions to each one: plain text, website URLs, email addresses, phone numbers, SMS messages, WiFi network logins, geographic locations and vCard contact cards. Whatever the payload, you get the raw decoded text plus one-tap shortcuts where they make sense.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot or saved photo?
Yes — that's exactly what this tool is built for. Upload the image, drag it in, or paste it with Ctrl/Cmd + V, and the QR is decoded instantly. There's no need for a second phone or a printout.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Uploaded and pasted images are processed entirely in your browser using an on-device decoding engine, so the picture never leaves your computer. Only the "From URL" option fetches a remote image, and that's a link you provide.
Does the camera scanner work on my phone?
Yes, on most modern phones and laptops. The site must be served over HTTPS and you'll be asked for camera permission. On phones the rear camera is selected automatically, and you can switch cameras with the toggle button.
Why won't my image decode?
Make sure the QR is clearly visible, in focus and not heavily cropped or glare-covered. Very low-resolution, blurry or partially hidden codes can fail. Try a sharper image or crop closer to the code, then scan again.
Can it read WiFi and contact QR codes?
Yes. WiFi codes are parsed into network name, security type and password, and contact (vCard) codes are broken out into name, phone, email and company, each with copy buttons.
Do you store my scan results?
Your scan history is saved only in your own browser's local storage so you can revisit recent results. Nothing is sent to us, and you can clear the history at any time from the history panel.
