How to Use the Barcode Generator

  1. Choose a barcode type. Code 128 handles letters and numbers; EAN-13, EAN-8 and UPC-A are for retail products; Code 39, ITF and Codabar suit logistics and IDs.
  2. Enter your data. The tool validates length and characters live and calculates any required check digit automatically.
  3. Style it. Adjust bar width, height, colors, text size, and quiet-zone margins. The preview updates instantly.
  4. Export. Download a crisp PNG or scalable SVG, copy the SVG markup, print a single code, or switch to Batch to generate a whole sheet of labels.

Which Barcode Type Should I Use?

Code 128 is the most versatile 1D barcode — it encodes all letters, numbers and symbols in a compact form, making it ideal for shipping labels, asset tags and internal SKUs. EAN-13 and UPC-A are the codes printed on retail products worldwide (EAN-13 outside North America, UPC-A inside it); both are purely numeric with a built-in check digit. EAN-8 is a shorter version for small packages.

Code 39 encodes uppercase letters, digits and a few symbols and is common in automotive and defense. ITF (Interleaved 2 of 5) packs numeric data densely and is used on cartons and ITF-14 shipping codes. Codabar is still found in libraries, blood banks and logistics. This generator builds the bar patterns to spec and adds the correct check digit for EAN, UPC and ITF automatically.

Everything is rendered in your browser as clean vector graphics, so your data never leaves your device and the output stays sharp at any size.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Code 128 and EAN/UPC?
Code 128 can encode letters, numbers and symbols and has no fixed length, so it is ideal for internal SKUs and shipping. EAN-13, EAN-8 and UPC-A are fixed-length numeric retail barcodes with a mandatory check digit, used on products sold in stores.
Does it add the check digit automatically?
Yes. For EAN-13 (12 digits in), EAN-8 (7 in), UPC-A (11 in) and ITF, the correct check digit is calculated and appended for you. Code 39 can optionally include a Mod 43 check digit.
Are the barcodes scannable?
Yes. The bar patterns follow each symbology's specification, including quiet zones and guard bars, so they scan reliably. For best results keep a high enough bar width and print at sufficient size.
Can I generate many barcodes at once?
Yes. Switch to the Batch tab, paste one value per line, and generate a sheet. You can then print it, save it as a PDF, or download a combined SVG.
PNG or SVG — which should I download?
Use SVG for printing and design software because it stays crisp at any size. Use PNG when you need a ready-to-place image; export at 2x or higher for clean edges.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. All encoding and rendering happen locally in your browser. Your data is never sent to a server, and the tool works offline once loaded.
