Where do I put the files?

What size image should I start with?
Use a square image at least 512×512 pixels for the sharpest results across all sizes. Simple, high-contrast designs read best at tiny tab sizes — fine detail tends to disappear at 16px.

    
Does it create a real favicon.ico?
Yes. The .ico is a genuine multi-resolution icon file containing 16, 32 and 48px images, built in the browser — not just a renamed PNG. It works in all browsers, including older ones that expect a true ICO.

    
Can I use an emoji as my favicon?
